Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 13 May 2026
Sherni (“Sherni”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have regarding your data when using the Sherni application.
By installing or using Sherni, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Data Collection and Usage
1.1 Account Information
When you sign in using a supported identity provider, Sherni may collect basic account information, including:
Name
Email address
Profile photo
Account ID
You may also choose to add optional profile information such as:
Age
Gender
About/Profile information
Profile picture
1.2 Emergency Contacts
Sherni allows you to add emergency contacts either manually or through your device’s system contact picker.
Sherni does not access or read your complete contact list. Only the contacts you explicitly select are stored locally on your device.
1.3 Location Permission
Sherni requires location access for the following safety-related features:
Attaching your live location to SOS alerts
Helping you locate nearby police stations, hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics through supported map applications
Displaying your current city on the home screen
Location access is requested only after you accept an in-app disclosure explaining how the data will be used.
When you manually enable the SOS safety service, Sherni starts a foreground service with a visible ongoing notification so you are always aware when location access is active.
The SOS service will not operate silently in the background without a visible notification.
You may disable the SOS service at any time or revoke location permission through your device settings.
Your live location is never uploaded to our servers. Coordinates are only included in emergency messages that you choose to send.
1.4 SMS and Messaging
Sherni does not automatically send SMS messages on your behalf.
When you trigger an SOS alert, Sherni opens your default messaging application with pre-filled recipients and message content. You must manually review and send the message.
Sherni does not read, store, or monitor your SMS conversations or message content.
1.5 Health and Wellness Data
The following information is stored locally on your device only and is never uploaded to our servers unless explicitly stated otherwise:
Activity Recognition
Daily step counts collected from your device’s physical activity sensor. Sherni stores only step counts and does not record movement traces or location paths for fitness tracking.
Menstrual Cycle Tracking
Period dates and flow information entered by you.
After you log at least one cycle entry, Sherni may schedule a local reminder on your device for predicted future cycle dates. These reminders are generated entirely on-device and are never transmitted to our servers.
Wellness Logs
Daily wellness entries such as mood, sleep, hydration, energy levels, and related personal tracking information.
Stress Tracker
Stress and anxiety check-ins along with optional personal notes.
Journal Entries
Personal journal and mental wellness notes created within the app.
Heart Rate Monitoring
Heart-rate readings generated through the camera-based heart-rate feature.
1.6 Camera Permission
Sherni requests camera access only when you actively use features that require it.
Heart-Rate Monitor
Camera frames are processed temporarily in memory to estimate your heart rate. No images or videos are saved, recorded, or transmitted.
Private Vault
The camera may be used to capture photos directly into your secure private vault storage. Images remain stored locally on your device.
1.7 Private Vault
Sherni includes a Private Vault feature that allows you to securely store personal photos behind a numeric PIN.
Vault content is stored locally within private app storage that is inaccessible to other applications.
For security purposes:
Your PIN is never stored in plain text
Only a secure cryptographic hash of the PIN is stored
Encrypted preferences and hardware-backed security mechanisms may be used where supported by the device
On devices where secure hardware-backed storage is unavailable, Sherni may use alternative secure storage methods while still ensuring the actual PIN is never directly stored.
Uninstalling the application permanently removes vault content and associated security data.
1.8 Public Content
If you choose to publish blog posts or content as Public, your content and username may be uploaded to secure cloud servers so other users can view it.
Content marked as Private remains only on your device and is never uploaded.
1.9 Notifications
On Android 13 and newer devices, notification access requires runtime permission.
Sherni requests notification permission only when necessary for features such as:
SOS service notifications
Period-cycle reminders
Safety-check reminders
Optional app alerts and updates
Notifications used by Sherni may include:
Ongoing SOS-service status notifications
Local cycle reminders stored on your device
Safety reminders to review emergency contacts
Optional remote notifications delivered through secure notification services
If you enable remote notifications, Sherni may receive a unique device notification token used solely for delivering app notifications.
This token is not shared with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
You may revoke notification permission at any time through device settings.
1.10 Analytics and Diagnostics
Sherni may use analytics and crash-reporting services to improve app performance, reliability, and stability.
These services may collect:
Anonymous usage statistics
Device information
Crash logs
Performance diagnostics
These reports do not include your private journals, wellness logs, emergency contacts, SMS content, or vault data.
2. Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
Sensitive information such as emergency contacts, wellness records, vault images, and journals are primarily stored securely on your device.
Cloud Storage
Publicly shared content and account-related information may be stored on secure cloud servers protected using industry-standard encryption during transmission and storage.
While we take reasonable security measures, no electronic storage system or internet transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
3. Your Controls
You may at any time:
Revoke permissions such as Location, Camera, Activity Recognition, or Notifications through device settings
Delete personal logs, journals, reminders, or stored history inside the app
Remove emergency contacts
Disable the SOS service
Delete your account and associated cloud-stored data from the profile settings section
